Many zuwwar prepare shoes, bags, chargers, and medicine, but forget to prepare the heart. Karbala is not only a destination. It is a place where a person should become more truthful with Allah, more loyal to the Ahlulbayt (as), and more serious about changing their life.

Read Ziyarat Arbaeen with meaning

Try to read Ziyarat Arbaeen in a language you understand before you reach Karbala. Do not only move your tongue. Know what you are saying. The ziyarat teaches that Imam Husayn (as) gave his soul for Allah and to save people from ignorance and misguidance. Let those words question your own life gently but honestly.

Prepare your dua list

Before the Haram, write your duas. Include your parents, family, teachers, community, the marhumeen, the sick, those who cannot go, the oppressed, and the reappearance of Imam al-Mahdi (atfs). Also include your own reform: the sins you want to leave and the obedience you want to begin.

Ask for transformation, not only ease

It is natural to ask for problems to be solved. But also ask Allah to make you firm in wilayah, obedient to Him, useful to Imam al-Zaman (atfs), and sincere after you return home. The real sign of a blessed ziyarat is not only emotion in Karbala. It is a changed life afterward.

Enter with adab

  • Lower your voice as you approach the Haram.
  • Do not push, rush, or harm others to reach closer.
  • Make space for elderly people, children, and those with health needs.
  • Keep your phone use respectful. Some moments are for the heart, not the camera.
  • If you cannot reach the zarih, give salam from where you are. Imam Husayn (as) knows his zaeer.

Remember gratitude

Thank Allah that you were allowed to come. Thank Imam Husayn (as) for calling you. Remember those who wanted to come but could not. Take a few steps on behalf of someone sick, poor, restricted, or deceased, and ask Allah to include them in the reward.
